Getting started

What is Helix?

A closed, end-to-end encrypted communications suite — triple-encrypted messaging, voice, global video, secure file storage and private groups — built on its own post-quantum protocols and its own multi-hop network. It's an operational-security tool, not a consumer chat app.

Who is Helix for?

Lawyers and legal teams, executives, boards and family offices, journalists and their sources, and anyone who genuinely cannot afford to be intercepted and wants maximum opsec every day.

How do I get Helix?

Buy a license on the pricing page with BTC, ETH or USDT. The instant payment confirms, your license key and a private download link appear. Then follow the setup guide for your device.

Is there a free trial?

No. Helix is a fixed-price license — you either hold one or you don't. There's no telemetry to power a "freemium" model, and no account to track.

What do I need to run it?

A Windows, macOS or Linux computer, or an Android/iPhone, plus your license key. Nothing else — no phone number, no email, no Google/Apple account.

Installing

Why does it say "unknown publisher" / "unverified developer"?

Because the build is intentionally unsigned and sideloaded — we don't go through any app store. On Windows: More info → Run anyway. On macOS: right-click → Open. On Android: allow "install unknown apps". This is by design, not a problem.

How do I verify my download is genuine?

Compare the file's SHA-256 to the published checksum. Windows: Get-FileHash file -Algorithm SHA256. macOS/Linux: shasum -a 256 file. If it doesn't match, don't run it — re-download.

Can I install on iPhone without the App Store?

Yes — via AltStore/SideStore, which re-signs the app on your device with your own free Apple ID. No App Store, no Apple Developer account. See the iPhone guide.

Does it run on GrapheneOS?

Yes, and it's the recommended phone. Install the Android APK; on a Helix hardened phone the OS-level sensor controls integrate with Physical Meeting mode.

Account & license

Where is my license key?

It's shown the moment your payment confirms, in the format HELIX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX, with your download link. Save it offline like a seed phrase.

How many devices can I use?

Each license includes one mobile seat and one desktop seat.

How do I move to a new device?

Install on the new device and activate the same key. It rolls the seat over — the new device becomes active and the old one deactivates automatically. You don't need the old device to do it.

I lost my license key — can you re-issue it?

No. We keep no account, no email and no customer database, so there's nothing to recover it from. Back it up offline. This is the same trade-off that makes us un-subpoenable.

How do renewals work?

Annual is the best value; 3- and 6-month terms are available at checkout. Renewing stacks onto whatever time you have left.

What's the difference between Core, Operator and Sovereign?

Core: full messaging/calls/mail/wallet on the shared onion + exit pool. Operator: dedicated rotating exit IP, priority relays, higher limits. Sovereign: your own self-hosted relay pack, multiple isolated realms, maximum limits. Fixed, published pricing — no custom deals.

Using Helix

How do I add a contact?

Helix is a closed network — send an invite or scan a contact's QR code. Outsiders can't message or call you; you choose exactly who's in.

How do I start a voice or video call?

Open a contact or group and tap the call/video button. Calls are triple-encrypted over our own transport; the screen confirms the moment the line is secure.

How do I share files?

Attach a file in any chat. It's end-to-end encrypted and stored only on the devices in that conversation. Dangerous file types are gated automatically.

What is the unlock secret, and what if I forget it?

On first run you set a private unlock secret; only it reveals the real app. There is no recovery — it isn't stored anywhere we can read. Choose something you'll never type by accident but always remember.

Can I keep work and personal life separate?

Yes — isolated realms keep cryptographically separated worlds (work, family, clients) that never bleed into each other.

What is disposable mail?

Throwaway or kept inboxes fetched through the tunnel and stored only on your device, with remote tracking content blocked.

Security features

What is Physical Meeting mode?

One tap disables the microphone, camera and GPS so the device can't listen, watch or locate you. On a Helix hardened phone it's enforced at the OS level for every app; on other devices it stops Helix from using or transmitting those sensors and points you to your system controls.

How does the built-in VPN / onion network work?

Traffic routes through our own multi-hop onion network with a fail-closed tunnel — nothing connects unless the tunnel is up. Pick an exit country in settings. We log zero data by design.

Disappearing messages vs Compliance mode?

By default messages disappear. Regulated professionals who must retain records can switch on Compliance mode, which keeps records under controlled retention while staying encrypted.

What does "post-quantum" mean for me?

Anything captured today stays unreadable even against future quantum computers — it defeats "harvest now, decrypt later," which matters for anyone whose conversations stay sensitive for years.

Is Helix really safe against Pegasus?

It's built specifically for that threat — own protocols, closed network, fail-closed tunnel, screenshot/recording blocks, and a hardened GrapheneOS phone option. But we will never claim immunity: no tool can promise to defeat an attacker who already fully controls your hardware, which is exactly why the hardened phone exists. Anyone claiming "100% Pegasus-proof" is selling you confidence, not security.

How do I burn everything?

One action wipes the vault, identity, files and keys instantly and irreversibly. Warning: it destroys your wallet keys too — back up your seed first or any crypto is lost.

Wallet

What does the wallet support?

Self-custody BTC, ETH and USDT. Keys are generated and sealed on your device — they never leave it and are never visible to us. We are not a custodian.

How do I back up my wallet?

Record your seed phrase offline. For inheritance-grade safety, split it with Shamir's secret sharing — any M-of-N shares rebuild it, fewer reveal nothing.

Can Helix see or freeze my funds?

No. It's non-custodial — we never hold your keys and cannot move, freeze or see your balance. Losing your seed means losing the funds, so back it up.

Buying & payments

How do I pay?

BTC, ETH or USDT. You're shown a unique address and exact amount; pay it and your license key appears the instant the payment confirms on-chain.

How long does payment take to confirm?

Usually minutes, depending on the network and fee you pay. The page updates automatically when it's detected.

Is the payment private?

Yes — it's non-custodial with no third-party processor and no account. We never see card details or banking information because there are none.

What is the Helix Hardened Phone?

A Google Pixel running GrapheneOS that we lock down with Helix pre-installed, built to resist Pegasus-class spyware and shipped worldwide. One-time hardware purchase; a license is still required separately.

Do you offer refunds?

Because licenses are delivered instantly and tied to crypto payment, sales are final. Buy the shortest term first if you want to try it.

Troubleshooting

The app won't open

Windows: keep all files from the zip together and click "Run anyway" past SmartScreen. macOS: right-click → Open, or run xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Helix.app. Linux: install the GTK3 runtime and run from its own folder. See your install guide.

I can't message or call someone

They must also run Helix and be added to your network. There are no outside contacts — that's the closed-network design.

My license won't activate

Check the key is entered exactly (it's HELIX- + four blocks). If the seat is in use on an old device, re-activating rolls it over. Each license is one mobile + one desktop seat.

The iPhone app stopped working after a week

Free-Apple-ID sideloads expire every 7 days. Open AltStore/SideStore and refresh, and enable background auto-refresh so it never lapses.

The VPN / network won't connect

The tunnel is fail-closed, so traffic stays blocked until it's up — that's intentional. Try another exit country; on a restricted network the HTTPS-camouflage transport helps.

Privacy, trust & legitimacy

Do you keep my data?

No. No message content, no keys, no contacts, no customer database. There is nothing on our side to breach, sell or hand over.

Can you read my messages?

No — they're end-to-end encrypted and we hold no keys. We engineered it so we cannot, not merely promise we won't.

What happens if you get a law-enforcement request?

We can only ever produce what we hold — which is nothing: no content, no keys, no account, no metadata store. There is no backdoor and no master key.

Is Helix open source? Can it be reviewed?

The design is documented for peer review — read the white paper. We publish how it works and invite scrutiny rather than ask for blind trust.

Who runs Helix and where are you based?

We're deliberately reticent about the people and infrastructure behind the project — for the same reason our customers choose us. The technology is meant to be judged on its design, not on a founder's bio.

How is this different from Signal or WhatsApp?

Mainstream apps use shared off-the-shelf crypto, lean on third-party servers, and leak metadata. Helix uses its own layered post-quantum encryption, its own decentralized network, no third parties, plausible deniability and one-tap burn. See the comparisons.
